Is checking ‘yes’ to organ donation on a driver’s license form actually against Torah law?
Q. Beloved Rabbi….. Is selecting yes on a DMV application for ORGAN DONATION anti-Torah?
Organ donation is a great mitzvah, but it must only be done with orthodox rabbinical supervision (e.g. a person may halachically still be alive, but the local medical definition might be that he’s already dead, and they might take his heart= killing him, while he is still alive). In Israel you can write that on the card [“only with orthodox Jewish rabbinical supervision”, otherwise it’s forbidden].
